Unit RelevanceAs members of communities and neighborhoods affected by gentrification, students should be aware of the social and economic processes that have affected their personal experiences and the experiences of family and friends who have been displaced due to rising property values and taxes. Students should also also understand the historical background of the Humboldt Park community not only as a culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhood, but also as a site of resistance to gentrification.
