Since its founding, the City of Chicago has been a hot bed of resistance to systems that have oppressed the rights of workers, immigrants, and people of color. In this unit we will discuss the historical traditions of resistance in chicago by discussing historically significant events in Chicago history, as well as the key players who help (or hindered) the causes of oppressed peoples.
While we discuss these events, students should keep in mind:
What issues were addressed in these events? What was the conflict?
Who benefitted most at the end?
Do we see any evidence of the systems of oppression that contributed to these events today?
Localized Resistance:Humboldt Park

They will also discuss how they feel gentrification has impact the Humboldt Park community and determine ways that continue to resist it.
We will have three speakers to speak on behalf of these three events in the Humboldt Park Community. These individuals are Ricardo Jimenez, Alejandro Molina, and Juanita Garcia.
